The Klias river cruise is a popular day trip with locals and tourists. On this cruise, you will see the Proboscis Monkey in the Klias wetlands. The Proboscis monkey is endemic to Borneo. The cruise starts in the afternoon and ends in the evening. It is easy to identify a Proboscis monkey, it is the one with a long nose and a bulging belly.

The cruise starts at 4.00pm in the afternoon, it is about a 2 hour boat ride that takes you into the wetlands. Soon, you will see monkeys and other wildlife in and around the trees. Also watch out for long-tailed macaques, silver-leaf monkeys, otters and crocodiles that are known to lurk in the mangrove waters. Visitors will be delighted to spot some winged species here including the kingfisher, eagle, hornbill, gray heron, and white heron.

You return for to the jetty for a sunset dinner of fresh seafood. There is one more cruise after the sunset. On this cruise you will see the spectacular sight of thousands of fireflies lighting up the riverbanks. "Like fairy lights on Christmas trees", is the usual comment. These unique insects flicker in unison amid the mangrove trees and transforms the night into a magical wonderland.

Listen to the sounds of wildlife in the dark, then tilt your head back and see the millions of stars twinkling back at you from the pitch black sky. The night cruise is a short one, and it's time to get back to Kota Kinabalu city.

LOK KAWI WILDLIFE PARK

The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is managed by the Sabah Wildlife Department. Occupying an area of 280 acres it is one of the largest wildlife parks in Malaysia. It is home to a fascinating and varied collection of tropical animals comprising mammals, birds and reptiles. These animals live in large enclosures designed to be like their natural habitat. Water is used as barriers wherever possible, together with low fences and walls camouflaged with vegetation. This open environment concept provides for easy viewing and unique opportunities for wildlife photography.

The park encourages the public and particularly schools to use its educational facilities to provide an authentic learning experience through observation and also by listening to tour guides and park staff during the visit. A botanical garden has been developed to highlight common plant species of the rainforest as well as some of the more unusual species such as pitcher plants.

The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park offers a unique opportunity for close-up views of some of the most elusive and endangered wildlife species in the world and to appreciate the conservation efforts being carried out to preserve and continue their survival. We hope you will enjoy the experience. The wildlife park is located about 25km from Kota Kinabalu on 280 acres of forested land. It is easily accessible by using either the Old Penampang-Papar Road via Dongonggon or the Putatan-Papar Road and is only a 15-25 minute journey from the city. You can drive there on your own or take a tour and be guided to view the exhibits in the park.

MARI MARI CULTURAL VILLAGE

It aims to share the knowledge, history, culture and tradition of Borneo with you so that it is not forgotten. The tour offers you the opportunity to see and experience the culture and lifestyle of how the indigenous ethnic groups of Borneo used to live in the olden days when electricity had not yet been introduced in their land.

The village features 5 different ethnic tribes in one village. They are the rice farmer, Kadazan-Dusun, the longhouse resident Rungus, the hunters and fisherman Lundayeh, the cowboy and sea gypsey Bajau, and the famously feared headhunting tribe Murut.
